The Holy Steps

     
Halfway through the little chapels, there is the wonderful form of the holy steps.

The holy steps are formed by continuous little steps: climbing on knees and reciting a prayer at every step, one obtains indulgences.

  
  Even today, the holy steps are the purpose of the visit of very many pilgrims who come in search of inner peace.

At the end of the holy steps, there is the Hermitage, carved in the rock, where Saint Jerome use to retire for prayers.
